Thanksgiving by Karen people in Sweden

 

 

All together about 210 of Karen people in Sweden gathered each other and did a thanksgiving ceremony in Örebro between on 26-27 July, 2008.

 

The thanksgiving ceremony was carried out at 10:00-12:00. This kind of ceremony is the fist ceremony that Karen people have done. The Karen people realize that they are the first people who thank God, king, government, religious leaders, migration department, UNHCR and Karen Refugee Central since they have arrived in Sweden, said Saw Dian Soaku, thanksgiving ceremony secretary, from Lindesberg.

 

Government, citizens and king have good heart, and they have fulfilled our needs as possible as they can. So, it is a respective thing that we have got to resettle living here, said Tin Win Hlaing from Örebro.

 

He added that Karen people are the second largest population in Burma. We have our own language, literature, calendar, tradition, culture, state and flag in Burma. We (the Karen people) are who do not like to fight with anyone and we like peace.

 

Karen people have resettled in Sweden because of the regime in Burma oppression. They live in 27 different municipalities, and they are about 800 person who have got to live here and have started their new life since 2001. Most of them are from refugee camps (Thai-Burma border).
