First time Czech accepts Burmese refugees

The first time that Czech Republic, which is situated in central Europe, will accepts 24 Burmese refugees from Malaysia.

Last month on 24th July, according to UNHCR sources reported that the Czech's government has selected the Burmese refugees to resettle and to begin new life in its country. The Czech's governmental workers have questioned 40 refugees and then they have given introduction training regarding to the tradition and culture of Czech. The selection of refugees is, depends on how refugees have suffered, and those who are real need health care and protection.

Katerina Stehlikova, who is working as a minister in Czech Republic, said that first we want to start with smal plan, and then we will see how the consequence is going on. We think we will expend and invite more refugees from different regions.

Czech got independence from the governance of Soviet in 1993, and it becomes member of European Unions in 2004.

It is the first time that the Burmese family will resettle in Czech country. Stehlikova think the Burmese refugees will not have problems to live in among Czech people. There are some Asians, who are Vietnamese, Mongolians, Chinese and Burmese, who are welcomed by Czech people.

Czech Republic has a program that to support immigrants who resettle in Czech country, the new coming refugees will be supported by Burmese who have been lived there.

There are 40,900 persons who have being registered by UNHCR in Malaysia. These people are who take asylums and who are refugees. Most of them come from Myanmar by the reason of Burmese military's persecution. Yante Ismail
