Food and agriculture organization appeals emergency aids for farmers The Food and Agriculture Organization of the Unite Nations (FAO) appeals aids 33.5 millions dollars for farmers and fisherman who live in the areas of delta to rebuild their lives again. Right now the period is to grow rice. So, the people there need emergency aids for agriculture especially the main food such as rice to be able manufacture in this year, said the source from FAO on 17th July. The source said, 75 % of farmers in delta do not have rice seeds to grow, and moreover the time remains just a few months that people can grow the rice until August. If the mount of rice decreases, it can cause problems for people. The food security depends on how much farmers can produce rice, and how much people can manufacture food amount such as poultry, feeding fishes and vegetables so on, said Anne M.bauer emergency aids and rebuilding manager. The request of Unite Nations was 303 millions USD, and it is included 51 millions that would be spent on agriculture, catching fishes, feeding fishes and planting trees. The 783,000 area of farms are destroyed by Nagis cyclone. So, it is 63 percent of farms in delta. 85 % of paddy's seed are ruined, and moreover animals and other facilities are lost. There are hundred thousands of fisherman were afftected, and their belongings and facilities such as boats and others are disappeared. 2100 area of feeding pounds are destroyed. source - kwekalu |
